Marina passed away peacefully at the Wetaskiwin Long Term Care Centre with her family by her side. We would like to thank Dr. de Wet and the staff for the care given to Grandma Johnson. Her optimistic view of life, gentle spirit and unconditional acceptance will live with us always.
She was born in Kingman, Alberta, the eldest of seven siblings and twin to Merlin. Her parents, Clarence & Christine (Langbell) Simonson emigrated from Norway and Denmark.
Marina graduated grade 12 in the first graduating class of the Kingman High School, then completed a two-year teaching certificate at ABBA (Alberta Baptist Bible Academy) in Wetaskiwin. There she met her husband, Clifford Johnson. They farmed north of Gwynne and enjoyed 62 years together, raising three children.
Music played a significant role in their home, Clifford being an enthusiastic fiddler. Marina was famous for her homemade bread and hospitality. Many children lived in their home before a foster care "system" existed through the government. Her care was free from the heart and funded by her garden and their dairy cows.
Marina is survived by her children, Myrl (Kay) Johnson of Battleground, WA, Caroline (Ken) Taylor of Gwynne and Phil (Loretta) Johnson of Gwynne; seven grandchildren and their families (including nine great grandchildren); one sister, Adeline Campbell of Abbotsford, B.C., many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford (2007); three brothers, two sisters and their spouses.
